Review: Happy Skin Shut Up and Kiss Me Moisturizing Lippies in Hold My Hand and Bride-to-Be

Like every beauty rule I've imposed on myself, I've broken my No Limited Edition Lipstick rule. It's heartbreaking when your favorite fragrance or nail polish gets discontinued, as a cruel reminder na #WalangForever (that there is no forever). But unlike your favorite ballpen that you can tuck away by the box for years, lipsticks will go bad.

But, like the sucker that I am, I caved because of the witty name and the cute packaging

P599 each for 2.7g; P999 for the pair
Made in Taiwan
According to Happy Skin:
"This lippie offers three-fold "lip service": the shine of a gloss, the pigment of a lipstick, and hydration of a balm! Spoil yourself with Shea Butter & Collagen to keep your lips in lip-lockin' shape!"

Quite a lot of promises to live up to. Review and swatches after the jump!

Bride to Be
The box says this is pink and rosy, but I call it a slightly peachy light pink. It takes on some blue undertones on me because my lips are ever so slightly purple.

Hold My Hand
Described as a healthy honey-toned glow. It's more of a tanned coral to me.

They are two big, beautiful crayons. Big, beautiful crayons with shiny mermaid scales. Highly-pigmented. Bride-to-be is one of those rare light pinks that doesn't scream "trying-hard kamatis". While I wish I was born with lips the color of Hold My Hand.

But now, the deconstruction of the Box Promises.

As far as "shine of a gloss," goes, BTB (Bride-to-be) starts out looking satin, and settles into semi-matte during the day as I re-apply. It's not as apparent in the photo because I used flash to get the color right. HMH (Hold My Hand) applies between satin and semi-matte, but takes about an hour longer to settle to semi-matte. Not a big deal for me since I'm not a fan of the glossy look anyway.

"Pigment of a lipstick," is spot-on. Both apply fully pigmented in one swipe. ALTHOUGH they have a knack for settling into lines (as you can clearly see with BTB), thus making lips look dry. They last around 3 hours until they dissolve into nothing but a hideous lip line. Best avoided by wearing lip balm underneath -- which brings me to:

"Hydration of a balm," Pffft. Sure, they glide on easily enough, but I find that they do not moisturize, and HMH is actually slightly drying. Plus, the matte-ness and the crevasse-hugging makes things look extra-parched.

Box promises aside, I still love this collection. I actually overlooked their few shortcomings until I read the box. I LOVE that it has no smell and wasn't infused with any flavor. There's a slight hint of singed watercolor when I sniff the tube but it's otherwise unnoticeable. No/unnoticeable scent grants it an automatic 5/5 for scent.

Rebuy: Yes please. If these weren't limited edition, I'd probably just buy Hold My Hand over and over again without even looking at the other Happy Skin lippies. (Which is probably why they make things limited edition, isn't it?) Looking forward to seeing these two pop up again either in liquid form, or when the brand revisits the shades.

What's your favorite Happy Skin lippie? Feel free to share a selfie in the comments!

    1. I almost called it that, but don't want to for a limited release. I don't know why either!

Diba?? I get a kick out of crushing hyperbolic claims.

  2. What does 'singed watercolor' smell like??

I didn't realize how nice these two colors are when they first came out, until this post. Grabe they look so soft and healthy on you! HMH is a tad bit better but both look sooo great!

    1. It smells like smoke, hot metal, and rubber. In other words: amoy factory. This is the ultimate proof that they didn't add any fragrance.

Thanks! :) Swatch them, at least! The box is so pretty hahaha
