Review: Daiso Make Up Corrector

Who else is guilty of doing their makeup in the car/cab? Why not make use of all that time you're stuck in traffic, right? You feel like a productive, multitasking wizard and the lighting is pretty neat in the morning.

Unfortunately, our roads that are world-renown for their pot holes, speed bumps, swarming motorcycles and crazy pedestrians that can lead to this.

Bad things happen when you try to wing it in the car.
So let me introduce you to one of the many hidden treasures in Daiso that you didn't know you needed until you saw it: The Daiso Make Up Corrector
Ta-dahhhh!
Daiso Makeup Corrector
P88 for 2 g

It comes in a twist-type crayon container that's just a little bit chubbier than the average ballpen. You can slip this into almost any pouch or purse with your eyeliner and lipstick to help with those pesky touch-up accidents that always seem to happen when you don't have any time to waste.

It's also great for the vanity at home because who doesn't need help with their winged eyeliner every once in a while -- Or in my case: all the time. Isn't it nice when there's an actual product to validate the fact that you're not the only one who can't draw straight lines?

Ingredients:

The ingredients may seem lip balm-ey, but it feels more like a cross between silicone-based primer and a lip balm. It doesn't drag or tug on sensitive areas (e.g. eyelids).

I decided to test this out on my 2 biggest application problems, which are responsible for at least a few wasted hours every week:
1. Messed up winged eyeliner
2. Red lipstick outside the lines

To put it through its paces, I used. 3 different eyeliners
1. Eyeliner close to lids - The Face Shop Lovely Me Ex (washable)
2. Left wing mistake - Etude House Oh M'Eye Line (waterproof)
3. Right wing mistake - Benefit They're Real Push Up Liner (waterproof - the most hard to remove waterproof, pawis-proof, and most of all, palengke-proof mother of all waterproof eyeliners)

I'll let the results speak for themselves:

First swipe/pass on Etude House Oh M'Eye Line (waterproof)

First swipe/pass on Benefit They're Real Push Up Liner (waterproof)

I'll admit that I didn't plan on removing the eyeliner close to the lash line, but we have my lack of coordination to thank for doing it anyway.

Second pass on both eyelids.

Yes, that's right, this P88 Make Up Corrector can remove Benefit They're Real Push Up Liner. Guys, this is the eyeliner that is so hard to remove that they sell a special makeup remover for it (at P1,000+, no less).

For the lipstick correction, here's what happened two layers of Maybelline Color Show in Very Cherry

Pictured above is my rubbing the corrector right onto the two layers and after wiping it all off with some tissue. Most red lipsticks leave a bit of a stain, so there was some of that even after I wiped it off, but nothing that a light dusting of foundation couldn't fix. I tried it again with one layer of lipstick  from different brands and non-staining shades, plus some light tissue-dabbing before applying the corrector, but got the same result.

Summary
Pros:
  • Effective on even waterproof eyeliner
  • Portable
  • Easy to use
  • Affordable
  • Unscented
Cons
  • Not very effective on lipstick
  • Available only at select Daiso branches (I got mine from Robinsons Magnolia)

Performance Rating: 4/5
Scent: 5/5 unscented
Packaging: 4/5
Price: 4.5/5

Rebuy: Definitely. I wish this worked better on lipstick, but its powers over eyeliner have lifted me up out of the purgatorial ritual of dispensing a tiny little drop of eye makeup remover onto a cotton swab, pressing it onto my eyelid for 10 seconds while praying to the god of time management for it not to mess up the parts of the eyeliner that I did get right.

P.S. If anyone can recommend something like this for clumped up waterproof mascara, please share. I'll send you cookies.

  2. Exciting! It's so convenient to have for just in case moments. I'll pick one up next time. All makeup artists should carry this.
